Abortion

Assertion:

Abortion should be illegal.

Evidence/Concrete detail:

Abortion is sometimes considered as murder.

The Bible prohibits the killing of human beings because they are created in the image of God. In order to be considered murder, the killing must be both premeditated and intentional. Since embryonic stem cell research results in the premeditated, intentional killing of a human being, Christian theology would consider it to be murder.

Not giving a human being an opportunity to live is sickening to think about.

Abortion is also considered inhumane.

"Abortion is barbarity. The government protects animals more than human beings."

Sickening of people to do unless the mother was raped.

Opposing Claim:

People think that abortion should be left legal because the woman has the right to their body and what she wants done to it.

My Rebuttal:

I believe woman do have the right to their body but they are also the ones who have to take on the responsibility of their body. Being drunk, high, or just not thinking can lead to bad and regrettable decisions.

The Effects of Setting

Author Willa Cather embedded literary devices, such as metaphors, similes, and personification, within her writing.

"As I looked about me I felt that the grass was the country, as the water is the sea. The red of the grass made all the great prairie the colour of wine-stains, or of certain seaweeds when they are first washed up. And there was so much motion in it; the whole country seemed, somehow, to be running."

"The grave, with its tall red grass that was never mowed, was like a little island."

"Winter comes down savagely over a little town on the prairie. The wind that sweeps in from the open country strips away all the leafy screens that hide one yard from another in summer, and the houses seem to draw closer together. The roofs, that looked so far away across the green treetops, now stare you in the face, and they are so much uglier than when their angles were softened by vines and shrubs.

The setting of the novel has as huge impact on the characters in the novel. The cold, icy Nebraska weather makes living conditions very hard in the winter time. For Christmas, the families couldn't make it to town to buy gifts or food because of the snow and hardly any technology has made it out to Nebraska at this time. Antonia and Jim friendship starts to grow apart because the lack of vistitation.

My brother's room smells like a sewer tank, it smells terrible. There are clothes all over the floor as if he doesn't know what a clothes hanger is. His sheets haven't been washed since October...of last year. His feet make his shoes smell rank which leads to his room smelling even worse. He has phone chargers, ipod chargers, and PSP chargers ever so you trip every 5 seconds. It's a disaster!
